Internship Courses

Getting real-world experience should be a big part of your education at IU. Our internship courses make it possible to earn academic credit for it. You can also enroll in a variety of course options to maintain part- or full-time student status as you complete your internship.

The following internship courses are offered through the College of Arts & Sciences and are open to exploratory students. To qualify, you must:

  • Be an undergraduate
  • Have a GPA of 2.0 or above
  • Have at least 24 credit hours completed prior to the start of the course
  • First complete your department’s internship course, if applicable. In the event of a granted waiver, students must not have higher than a junior-level status and can take the course for only one term prior to completing their home department’s internship course. Please consult your academic advisor before applying for Q398, W498, or W499.

If you are applying for the Disney College Program you are only eligible to apply for W498.

  • Earn Academic Credit, ASCS Q398

Grades assigned to Q398 are either Satisfactory or Fail (S or F). Read more about grades at IU Bloomington at Student Central on Union.

The fees for Q398 are the same as any other credit-bearing course. You can use the Office of the Bursar’s Tuition Estimator to estimate your semester fees.

After we receive your application, we will contact your supervisor and request a description of the internship. Once we have collected the necessary information, we will determine whether the internship can be approved for academic credit. The approval committee meets once per week to review applications. If we approve your internship for credit, we will register you for Q398 and direct you to the course assignment guidelines.
