The Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education leads to a generalist license to teach grades K-6. This program guides students to develop the tool kit necessary to teach the subjects of mathematics, language arts, science, social studies, and fine arts. Various methods of teaching are explored including music, books, computers, games, films, and other tools.
With a focus on theory into practice, students have opportunities to learn in actual classroom settings through early field experiences. The program culminates in a semester-long student teaching experience in a K-6 classroom where students develop lessons and assess students under the guidance of a mentor teacher.
Elementary Education teachers may go on to become school principals, guidance counselors, reading specialists, instructional coordinators, librarians, preschool teachers, curriculum/instructional designers, or school social workers.
