Nursing is a career that combines science and math skills and the latest technology with comprehensive care for people young or old, healthy or sick. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) teaches students how to assess, develop, plan, implement, and evaluate plans of care for individuals, families, and communities.
Application to the BSN at IU Bloomington requires a minimum of one year of prerequisite nursing and general education coursework. Admission is highly selective based on grades. For those admitted to the program, three additional years of nursing core courses and remaining general education coursework are required.
The four-year BSN degree can be completed on campuses throughout the IU system.The IU Bloomington (IUB), Indianapolis (IUPUI), Fort Wayne (IUFW), and Columbus (IUPUC) Schools of Nursing are part of the Core Campus and have similar prerequisites and nursing core courses. Please contact a School of Nursing advisor at each campus for specific processes.
To become a licensed Registered Nurse (RN), a BSN graduate must satisfactorily complete the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX) and fulfill any licensure requirements for the state in which they plan to practice.
